Awning – Difficult Installations

Patio Awnings provide perfect shade from the sun and can also be used as shelter from light showers.  Patio Awnings can provide excellent room shade, keeping your room cool and protecting your furnishings from the rays of the sun, or even provide a sheltered area to sit under outside.

Often it can appear that an Awning would not be able to be fitted to your home due to not having an obvious flat wall to fit to. Luckily there are some solutions for several of these types of problems.

Low roofed homes such as bungalows can appear the most difficult property to install a Sun Awning to. It is important that you never fix your awning into the top courses of bricks as there is no strength there. If you do, the chances are the bricks will pull away causing the awning to collapse as well as damaging your property.

Spreader plates are the ideal solution to this problem. As the name suggests, they spread the load of the awning down the wall. Usually they are flat plates that are around 50cm in length. They have three or more fixing points down them allowing to spread the load and take the fixing points away from the top courses.

Low roof lines can also cause an issue with the awning height. If you have a low roof then the awning will be installed low. This means that the front plate will be extremely low and cause a hazard for bumping your head on! Generally there is no scope for putting a decent angle on it to let water roll off adequately if it rains. This will lead to water pooling on the fabric and will damage the awning very quickly.

Brackets can be used here that bring the awning out from under the soffit and up to or slight above the line of the guttering. This will allow for a much better pitch and still keeping it above head height. Again, the bracket spreads the load down the wall.

This type of step out bracket is ideal for many other situations. For example, tile hung walls are very popular but usually the tiles start right when you want your awning. A small step out bracket will solve this problem.

If you have a solid wall you may still hit another problem. What if you have a down pipe in the way? Pipe brackets are the ideal solution here. These compact brackets extend the awning away from the wall to clear these types of obstructions.

There are some instances where no bracket will allow installation. Perhaps the brickwork is old and crumbling or perhaps you want an awning for your static caravan or mobile home. In these instances the best solution is to use support posts.

Support posts are generally made out of 80mm box section and they are sunk into the ground by around 600mm. They are coloured to blend with any environment.  The posts are installed as close to the wall as you like. They are totally freestanding so there is no strain on the building itself.

There is rarely an instance where a sun awning can not be installed at all. Often these methods do cost a little bit more than a straight on the wall awning installation but the benefits that a sun awning can bring to your life is well worth the extra investment.

About Installing Personal Swimming Pool in Toronto

Basking in the sun by the side of personal swimming pool on a wintry day or enjoying a soothing dip in it during the summer is something that any resident of Toronto would simply love to do. It’s a fact that due to the mild and humid climate of Toronto, most people in Toronto prefer to have personal pools installed right in their homes. Furthermore, a personal swimming pool is not only a luxurious proposition but also an excellent idea to add to the aesthetic value of a home. Installing a swimming pool will further enhance the value of your property.

There are many swimming pool companies Toronto that offer swimming pool construction and installation services in the region. These pool companies in Toronto undertake everything – right from detailed landscape design to reviewing the needs of the client to detailed drawings and on site supervision to electrical, gas and carpentry work.

You can choose from in-ground or above ground pools according to your requirement and budget. These swimming pool companies in Toronto offer various options in pools that include pre-fabricated pools, Gunite Vinyl Lined pools, and Gunite Concrete pools. While the pre-fabricated swimming pools are the least expensive and easiest to install in ground swimming pools, they don’t offer flexibility or choices in designs. The gunite vinyl lined pools are somewhat better than the prefabricated ones in terms of design options they offer. However, they are slightly expensive compared to pre-fabricated ones.

On the other hand, gunite concrete pools, though most expensive of all pools, come with a variety of options in designs. You can even get them custom made to suit your specific needs. The various shapes you can choose from include the Heritage, Victorian, Muskoka, Oval, Vermont and more – all in sizes ranging from 12′x24′ to 20′x40′.

There are many pool companies Toronto that offer pool installation services. However, perfect installation of your desired swimming pool requires you to hire the services of experts in the field. Therefore, it’s recommended that you hire a company that doesn’t hire sub-contractor for the job and offers turnkey packages to meet the specific needs of their clients.

Ceramic technology made the Compass composite pool a world leader

The Compass ceramic core is composed of hollow ceramic spheres called microcells.

And like the ceramic tiles on the space shuttle, these tiny spheres have some truly astonishing characteristics and qualities.

Compass began building pools in 1980 using established international construction methods. In 1994 a scientific study from the UK on the relative water absorption rates in both Vinyl Ester and polyester resins, challenged Compass engineers to improve the overall permeability of their pool and spa products.

The Scientific Challenge

Compass engineers took up that challenge and through intensive research greatly increased their understanding of immersed composite structures. They knew that any answer to the potentially damaging hydrolysis of polyester resins would bring with it superior performance. They found that answer in a material with some very special properties.

A Space-Age Solution

Intense heat can have a remarkable affect on everyday materials. Glass and Ceramics are well-known examples.  In the process of being super-heated, both take on quite new and unusual properties.

When the Compass R&D team researched a by-product of the extreme temperatures inside a power station furnace, they were intrigued. It was a ceramic dust composed of hollow spheres called microcells. The attributes of these tiny spheres were quite startling. They were so tough they could withstand 10,000 psi without discernable affect. They had a melting point between 1600 and 1800 degrees Celsius. They were chemically inert, but still compatible with both water and solvent based resin systems. Most important of all, they would not, they could not absorb moisture in any form.

Turning theory into practical reality

Of Course you can’t make a pool of ceramics alone. Ceramic material is brittle and would shatter like a coffee cup. Compass had to find a way to blend ceramic dust with a vinyl ester resin to create a super tough layer with the properties of both. Their ground-breaking success work in this field has been patented* and is now internationally recognized. Ceramic technology not only doubled the life of a Compass pool, it had other bonuses as well. It improved impact on resistance made ceramic composite pools even tougher. Panel stiffness increased without reducing the inherent and unique ability of a composite pool to cope with ground movement and expansive soil conditions. Production quality and consistency improved with the ceramic core. The performance of pool heating systems was greatly enhanced.

The Ceramic Core is the Key

When looking at a cross-section of a Compass composite pool the ceramic core can be clearly seen. It’s this core that sets Compass apart. It’s this core that Compass believe is one of its major breakthroughs. It is this core that ensures you are buying the toughest, most durable and most innovative composite pool in the world.

*Patent No. PN1690

Yes Garden Design Plans Will Help With Putting Your Garden In!

Garden Design Plans

Landscaping Gardens are a reference to a garden style that was popular in eighteenth century. This style was very popular with the English who took the design to heart. This style is very romantic and elegant. One of the shining lights of landscaping gardens was Lancelot Brown, an English architect and landscaper of great renown. Many of his creations are alive today. You can find just a few fine examples here:

Burghley House Garden
Blenheim Palace Garden
Harewood House Garden
Chatsworth Garden

There are several locations on the web where the landscape gardens are discussed, many with pictures. I encourage you to have a look.

Landscaping Garden: A Modern Term for an Old Design

However, the term landscaping garden only began to be used in the twentieth century and this concept in fact, has a number features that set it apart from other types of gardens. To begin with, there is need to prepare drawings and make plans as well as schedule a timeframe to construct the landscape.

Landscape Garden was coined in the twentieth century, but the concept of design has changed little since the days of Brown. It is a formal style garden and therefore needs some thought applied before the action.

The chief points to consider when venturing on to this garden design are:

1. The preparation of drawings and other plans to mark the course of the landscaping and the feature locations.
2. Specifications and quotes for clearing, debris hauling, and materials.
3. Division of labor between do-it-yourself projects and hired projects.
4. General contractor agreements and hired firms.

Naturally, this is a very “high level” objective set, the actual negotiations for services, design, and labor are more time intensive. The formal landscaping garden is not for the timid or the uninitiated; it is a serious endeavor and as most large projects go, it can be quite a drain on cash, time and patience. On the positive side, when complete, the landscape garden is park like, very beautiful, often like a playground, and very serene.

Landscaping the Home

Up to now, this article has been rather grandiose in its treatment of the landscape garden style. The examples quoted above are huge estates. It the impression was given that this style is not for the private home then nothing could be further from the truth.

On the smaller scale of the private home, landscape gardens can incorporate things like greenhouses, outdoor patios, and dining spaces without obliterating the beautiful but formal design style. If those modern element can be fitted into the design at concept (rather than after construction of the landscape garden), then their decidedly modern profile can be camouflaged in the design, either by stone or hedge features for instance. There is no reason why even a BBQ can”t be made to look “indigenous” with just a little ingenuity!

Pretty in the Planning

To get the best out of landscaping garden you will no doubt have to plan everything properly so as to ensure that each option is given its proper space; other than that, the possibilities facing the gardener are endless and it is up to your own imagination just how much you are able to get out of your landscaping garden.

Getting the best result out of your landscape garden will require planning and careful attention to detail. To ensure you can incorporate all your ideas and needs while still maintaining that classic look you”re seeking, all you have to do is think, plan, and design. After that, the opportunities and possibilities of your landscape garden are endless!

How to make a wendy house at home for children

A wendy house is a small hut used by children to play inside. It has a floor, roof, walls, door and window openings as in a normal house. It can be located in the play park or be free standing within the lawns. It should be located in an area where children can be safely monitored. This can be placed near or within the swimming pool but not on the pool deck. It should be placed on a sand pit to avoid injury from falls. The floor should be raised above the normal ground finish about one foot high.

The wendy house should be made safe to use and be weather proof. The materials used should be able to resist weather agents like snow, rain, wind and dust. The construction involved using mainly timber. This should be treated to prevent pests like termites from invading and damaging the structure. The house can be about four to five feet square. A bench can be made for sitting inside. The height is about six feet. The shape of the unit is either square or rectangular. Regular polygon shapes can also be used for the planned layout.

The construction starts with marking out the area and digging holes for the posts. The timber posts are circular in shape and about ten inches in diameter. This are raised about a foot above the ground. A Timber framework of four by three timber is formed on top of the posts all round. This forms the deck for the one and a quarter inch block board floor. The walls are then erected with a framework of four by two inches timber. A block board of one inch thick is used to form the walls with window and door openings being cut out.

The roof of the wendy house is either pitched or cone shaped. It constructed using a framework of two by three inches timber attached to the wall. A ply wood is nailed on top of the roof structure. A bituminous felt is laid on top of the ply wood to form a water proof cover. This can be cut into small pieces like shingles to form a pattern laid from the bottom to top. Timber is painted in various colors. Different cartoon characters maybe painted on the structure. A bench is fixed inside for sitting. Finally steps with a hand rail are fixed for access into the hut.
