Flowers have the ability to blend into and give a sense of essence to any room in any home, office or public space.
Roses on the other hand, have always been considered to be a great addition to any garden, a room’s decor and the way to say I am sorry, I love you, I am proud of you etc. They not only add color, fragrance, and elegance to the occasion, but they add a dimension of beauty and structure that is entirely breathtaking.
Roses have always been a symbol of peace, love and friendship to all who see them. They are the first flower of choice when someone is hoping to create or revitalise a bond.
Interestingly, while roses are available to anyone who wants to purchase them, for those who grow their own roses and then give them as a gift, it is considered to be the ultimate expression of love and respect.
If you enjoy the pleasure of having fresh roses in your home or office then our tips for extending their lives are just what you need.

No. 1 Tip for Roses as Cut Flowers
1. Ok, so hurry on now and as soon as you possibly can and get those fresh roses into a bucket of tepid water containing one dessertspoon of sugar.
2. Next, carefully (mind your fingers) remove those lower leaves and thorns and then slit the bottom of each stem upwards for about one inch.
Now have a quick look and make sure that the stems are standing ‘up to their necks’ in the water.
3. Be both gentle and patient with your Roses my dears. Now if you can, leave the bucket of Roses somewhere cool and dark overnight.
4. In the morning see if any of the leaves have wilted….they have? Oh my dears!! easy fixed!!
Just stand the stems in about 1 inch of ‘very hot’ water for a few minutes. Then, voila!….go to it and start arranging your roses.
5. Please don’t do what our ‘gardener’ did. Never, ever put your arrangement in direct sunlight. (Tee Hee..I do believe Margarita’s high pitched consternation still rings in his ears)
6. If you are going to use plastic foam for a base then please, oh please, soak it thoroughly first and then do whatever fixing is necessary before inserting any of the rose stems.
7. Remember – your Roses are happiest and far better off in ‘tepid water’ (as is our Margarita when a truly good sherry warms up the Irish in her!)
Aaah! just beautiful and what a grand job you just did.
Everything’s Comin Up Roses!
