“It is now apparently utterly oafish behavior to turn up at a Parisian dinner party with a bunch of shop-bought flowers or a box of marron-glacés. The annoyingly cutting-edge thing to do is to present your host with a few roses, or even a herb plant, “from my little garden in Normandy”.

Actually his entire article is well worth reading – so if you are just as curious now about where on earth the ‘Parsnips’ fit in….well petals..off you go then..just hit the words Roses and Parsnips and they will take you straight to it.
